Should I Celebrate My Dog’s Birthday?

Hell yes, you should celebrate your dog’s birthday! Today, Miss Lemon turns 7! And our celebration is just starting!

Do dogs know it’s their birthday?

Mmm…probably not. But that’s no excuse not to celebrate! If you’re anything like me, if you don’t know your dog’s actual birthday, you’ve assigned one for them. This might be based on their estimated age, or their Gotcha Day. But Lemon is different! Included with her rescue papers was a little ol’ bill of sale from her breeder showing her actual birthdate! She’s the only rescue dog I’ve had where I also had this bit of information.

What do Dogs like for their birthday?

A ride in the car, a new toy, a special treat – whatever you choose, they’re going to love it! Let’s face it, dogs are pretty agreeable, but you should choose something outside of your normal day to day to routine. You know, so they feel special. We hit all of these things with a special trip to our local pet goods store Dolittle’s.

Did you know Dolittle’s has a DOUGH+ Rewards Program with lots of great perks? You’ll earn credit for purchases to save on future purchases, receive discounts on their bathe ‘em yourself dog wash, and your dog (or cat) will get a special treat on their birthday!

What’s in the dog birthday bag?

I was super surprised at how many goodies were included in this bag! Lemon got a birthday cupcake squeaky toy, a birthday cookie, treats from both Stella & Chewy’s and Polkadog, and a Dolittle’s coupon for a free bath. Talk about spoiled for her special day!

Let’s make it a party!

To mark the special occasion, I also picked up a sparkly feathered crown for the birthday girl. And because it’s not a party without friends, we invited our best boy Toby over to share our birthday treats!
