What is the Best Camera for Watching my Dogs?

I’ve had a camera to check in on my dogs for years. But with a recent move, my existing camera just didn’t reach all the areas I wanted to spy on. As the old camera was outdated, I began asking myself, what is the best camera for watching my dogs?

Amazon’s Blink Indoor Wireless HD security camera

I really wanted a camera that’s wireless, meaning it did not need to be plugged into an outlet. A friend suggested I check out Amazon’s Blink system because wireless is exactly what they offered! This allows me to move the cameras around the house as needed. Or, they can be mounted on the wall with the included swivel mount.

If you’re like me, meaning you don’t want to put holes in your wall until you’re really sure about where you want the camera, try using Command Picture Hanging Strips to attach the mount to the wall. I’m still using those on the camera in my living room.

Two Way audio

In addition to no wiring, Blink offers live real time viewing, and two way audio, allowing you to see, hear and talk to you dogs. I did not have the two way audio feature on my last camera, but it’s already come in handy. I’ve caught Ruby, paws on the counter, and was able to correct her to get down by pressing the ‘Talk’ button in the Blink app.

Motion Triggered Recording

Another thing I like about the Blink camera system is recording motion-triggered snippets while I’m away (which isn’t often these days, I tell ya). I just tap the ‘Armed’ button in the app as I am headed out. Or, you can use the scheduling option to set recurring times for the system to be armed. Each camera has individual motion detection settings, allowing you to set sensitivity level, and clip length. Real time notifications are available letting you know when motion activity is happening.

At any time, you can view the recorded clips in the app to see what your pups are up to. Use the Blink Subscription plan to store your recordings in the cloud. Or, do what I do and save them locally to to the Blink Sync Module with a USB flash drive (which does not come with the system).

Living Room

Night vision

For those of you who don’t allow your pups to sleep with you (gasp!), Blink’s night vision will let you keep a watchful eye in the dark. They also offer wireless outdoor cameras, as both a system, and as an add on camera if you’re already have the Blink Sync Module. I’ll be adding these soon, so I can keep an eye on the girls when I let them outside while I’m stuck inside working!

Are pet cameras worth it?

For me, a pet camera is definitely worth it! I found the Blink wireless camera system to be relatively affordable for having multiple cameras. I love checking in on the girls when I am gone! And even though I work from home now and don’t leave home as often, I’m not a total hermit. Having a pet camera gives me peace of mind knowing what is happening while I’m gone.
